Natarajan Macuseal ™ — The World’s First Desiccated Amniotic Membrane for Retinal Surgery On the occasion of World Retina Day,
Akriti Ophthalmic Pvt. Ltd. proudly announced the global launch of Natarajan Macuseal™, the world’s first desiccated amniotic membrane engineered specifically for retinal surgery.
This breakthrough innovation was unveiled at Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital, Mumbai — a unit of Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital — in the presence of distinguished retina surgeons and global thought leaders. Developed in collaboration with Padma Shri Prof. Dr. Natarajan Sundaram, Chair of Retinal Surgery at Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, Natarajan Macuseal™ addresses critical posterior segment conditions including:
• Macular Hole Closure
• Giant Retinal Tear (GRT) Repair
• Optic Pit Closure
Vision loss due to macular defects remains a global challenge. Amniotic membranes have long demonstrated success in ophthalmic surgery due to their anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic properties.
Natarajan Macuseal™ elevates this approach with a patented, desiccated format that offers unmatched precision, ease of use, and healing potential. Manufactured under GMP-certified conditions, the product is Gamma Sterile, safe for human use, and available in four sizes ranging from 500 to 1000 microns. It is designed to integrate seamlessly with advanced retinal imaging technologies, allowing surgeons to tailor its application to the exact dimensions of retinal defects.
The launch was graced by Dr. Karobi Lahiri Coutinho, internationally acclaimed retina surgeon, and Prof. Dr. Kuldeep Raizada, renowned clinical ocularist and visionary industrialist from Akriti Ophthalmic Pvt. Ltd., alongside a distinguished gathering of retina specialists and innovators from across India.
Natarajan Macuseal™ has successfully met all regulatory requirements for human ophthalmic use and is now available for domestic and international markets. It represents a bold step toward self-reliant innovation and contributes to India’s vision of global medtech leadership.
